THE EXPERIENCE
Discover Tel Moreeb
The steep dune has a strong connection with organised hill-climb motorsport at the Liwa International Festival. Outside event periods, the wider setting highlights the scale of Al Dhafra's desert landscape. A paved approach reaches the base, but that does not make the sand itself an ordinary road.
The dune is accessible by a paved road to its base outside festival periods, while the Liwa International Festival adds organised competition and visitor entertainment. Decide whether you want landscape photography or the event atmosphere before choosing dates. The slope is strenuous on foot, so viewing from below is a valid visit rather than an incomplete climb. A motorsport competition also does not make self-driving on the dune appropriate for an ordinary sightseeing trip. Confirm a suitable licensed excursion if you want a guided desert activity, and plan for the remote Al Dhafra location.
The dune's scale can be appreciated from the base; a successful visit need not involve climbing or driving its slope. If an event is your priority, follow organiser instructions for spectators. If scenery is the goal, choose a comfortable observation point and keep the remote drive and return arrangements central to the plan.
